Dear Friends, Families and Colleagues:

Fifteen years ago the first Eaton Arrowsmith (EA) opened on the University of British Columbia campus. Over the years hundreds of children and adults with learning difficulties, from around the world, have benefited from the Arrowsmith Program at EA. It has been heartwarming to see their cognitive improvements and follow their accomplishments upon transitioning to new academic and employment experiences.

This school year I have the pleasure of spending more time with the EA school sites, after focusing much of my attention in recent years on bringing the Arrowsmith Program to the field of brain injury. To observe children and adults engaging in their cognitive program is always remarkable. For example, to witness an eight year old child, surrounded by the support of classmates and educators, work to develop strengths in a previously weak auditory working memory system for forty minutes a day, five days a week, for over 300 days in a school year is awe inspiring.

For years prior to engaging in the Arrowsmith Program I was taught and then implemented academic interventions that bypassed or compensated for the cognitive weaknesses of my students with learning difficulties. I told them, and their parents, you must focus on your strengths and find ways to avoid your neurological weaknesses. Now, it brings me great joy to tell children and adults that you can improve cognitive weaknesses and broaden your academic and employment goals.

At times I wish I could go back in time and rewrite my former students stories. To give them the opportunities that none of us knew were possible back twenty or thirty years ago. Obviously I cannot do that, but I can work towards a brighter future for children and adults struggling to learn today. I am honoured to have the opportunity to be part of the Arrowsmith Program community, and driven to ensure more and more children and adults with learning difficulties get access to this life changing cognitive improvement intervention.

Neuroplasticity and Education: Making the Connection
The Summer Cognitive Intensive Program, 'CIP,' at EA Vancouver, White Rock and Redmond was a tremendous success. We are beyond proud of all of the accomplishments made by our students, and extend our gratitude to our families for dedicating six weeks over the summer to support their children throughout this program. Our gratitude also extends to our adult students, many of whom put their studies and work obligations on hold in order to give themselves this gift of life long personal development.

The feedback from participants and their families has been rolling in:

He is able to read a book much more smoothly. He does not see so many words at once on a page. He also really enjoys reading out loud now.

I have noticed my child is more emotionally aware.

Concentration has definitely much improved, she's a little less rigid, and is able to regulate her emotions quicker.

I can see she is more confident and know the consequences of her actions.

I think my son is more confident and calm.

She is more curious, and even asks to listen to the news on the radio - a first!

We have now set our dates for CIP 2020 - Monday July 6th to Friday August 14th 2020.  Registration will begin on January 27th 2020 via
admissions@eatonarrowsmith.com or (604) 264-8327 (EA Vancouver and White Rock interest) and (425) 861-8327 (EA Redmond interest).

We can't wait to see you in the summer!

*Please note that this six week program can be offered at select times throughout the school year at any of our sites, pending space.
